Altai Technologies, a carrier-grade Super WiFi equipment supplier enabled Fitel, the BWA operator of Taiwan's New Year's Eve Countdown to provide Super WiFi services at Taipei 101. To cope with the huge demand for mobile internet during New Year's Eve, the service operator built another high performance wireless broadband network to complement its existing WiMAX network. The WiFi network covered the streets around Taipei 101 with twenty-three units of Altai A8-Ei Base Stations deployed on the rooftops of buildings in the district to provide Super WiFi service. The network was built and turned into full service in less than 1 week. In this densely urban environment, each Altai A8-Ei provided 650m line-of-sight signal coverage where every iPhone, iPad or smartphone…
Spanish savings bank "la Caixa" and IBM announced the establishment of a ten-year strategic services relationship. As part of the agreement, IBM and Serveis Informatics la Caixa, S.A. (Silk) will manage the infrastructure technology budget of "la Caixa" of more than 2 billion euro over ten years. IBM, through Silk, will provide technology, operations, applications and infrastructure services to "la Caixa" and will manage its data processing centers, located in Cerdanyola del Valles and San Cugat (Barcelona). The IBM-provided scope represents about half of this budget, while the remainder is directed to additional third-party service providers. The new strategic alliance is expected to save 400 million euro for "la Caixa" over the term of the agreement. The contract will provide…
EnGenius Technologies launched the ENH500 and ENH202 Long-Range Wireless 11N Outdoor Client Bridges/Access Points, the company’s most powerful outdoor access points to date. The versatile high-speed ENH202 and ENH500, which can function as access points, client bridges, client routers, or Wireless Distribution System (WDS) bridges, deliver speeds up to 300Mbps and maintain a reliable link over distances up to two miles. Both the ENH202 and ENH500 feature directional internal high-gain antennas with dual polarization to provide higher speeds and extended ranges. The ENH202 supports 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n for maximum compatibility with various client devices, whereas the ENH500 supports 802.11a/n in the less-saturated 5GHz band to provide fast, reliable wireless connectivity for mission critical, bandwidth-intensive business applications. Ideal for supporting outdoor deployments…
AT&T* customers in Philadelphia and surrounding communities including southern New Jersey are expected to experience improved mobile broadband coverage and voice performance as a result of continued investment by AT&T. The company announced today network improvements made to enhance the wireless capacity and performance of its local mobile broadband network. Since the start of 2011, AT&T has made more than 1,400 wireless network upgrades in the greater Philadelphia area. Some of the enhancements in Philadelphia, and southern New Jersey include: Deploying enhanced backhaul connections to more than 740 cell sites. Combined with HSPA+ technology, these backhaul deployments enable 4G speeds**. Adding capacity or an extra layer of frequency - which is like adding lanes to a highway to nearly 650…
Asetek announced that it will offer a range of liquid cooling solutions to address a diverse set of cooling challenges facing modern HPC clusters data centers. These challenges range from reducing latency in high frequency trading applications, to increasing performance and density in servers, HPC clusters and data centers and decreasing the amount of energy used for cooling. All of these solutions utilize the company's proven CPU and GPU cooling technology which is commercially deployed today in hundreds of thousands of computers around the world. The benefit of Asetek liquid cooling technology is its efficiency in removing heat directly from processors and moving that heat to an optimal place for transferring it to the environment. The success of Asetek's technology…
