A new accelerator research facility being built at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory will bolster Illinois’ reputation as a technology hub and foster job creation. The Illinois Accelerator Research Center (IARC) at the Department of Energy’s Fermilab will provide a state-of-the-art facility for research, development and industrialization of particle accelerator technology. Noblis announced that a next-generation Cray XMT supercomputer has been delivered to the Noblis Center for Applied High Performance Computing (CAHPC) in Danville, Va. The CAHPC is the first facility in the United States, outside of a federal laboratory or academic facility, to house a Cray XMT supercomputer. The CAHPC, a collaborative effort between Noblis and Cray, a global leader in supercomputing, was created to accelerate the development and commercialization of applications requiring graph analytics and to increase U.S. competitiveness and create sustainable high-tech jobs.
