CESGA launches European network of supercomputing centers for SMEs

The Supercomputing Center of Galicia (CESGA) is promoting a European network of competence centers of supercomputing for SMEs. This network, called SESAME NET (Supercomputing Expertise for Small and Medium Enterprise Network), is funded through the program for research and innovation, European Horizon 2020.

The main goal of this network is to provide knowledge, infrastructure, support and technical support to small and medium sized European companies in the use of techniques, methods and supercomputing infrastructures for competitive advantage in the marketplace.

In the SESAME NET project, CESGA is entrusted with the mission of leading the pack to work on participation, commitment, capacity and expertise for

SMEs. Supercomputing is becoming an indispensable technology for business growth and they are proud to be part of this European network which provides vital support to SMEs who need access to resources and services for future commercial success.

We are convinced that this network will facilitate the creation of an environment favorable to SMEs and help to maximize the economic impact of e-infrastructures. CESGA is the only Spanish representative in this network consists of 15 institutions, public universities and companies from 13 European countries.

CESGA has a solid experience in providing services to small and medium enterprises. For the last decade, CESGA leads Spain in actions and projects aimed at supporting enterprises in the use of supercomputing. The result of these projects are as follows: Simula (2005), CloudPYME I (2011), UBERCLOUD (2012) CloudPYME II (2013), Fortissimo (2013) or Fortissimo II (2015) which all focused on providing supercomputing services to SMEs.

Additionally, CESGA contracts with SMEs to provide services requiring innovative supercomputing performance. The SESAME NET network has financial support for the Horizon 2020 Programme totaling €2 million euros. CESGA will account for the business development of supercomputing with funding of €158,000 euros.

The objectives of economic growth and a greater number of high qualification jobs can not be achieved without these efforts in R&D and innovation. So they understand the need for support in adopting supercomputing services for SMEs, as a major job creator, and as a secure bet to obtain future returns for the whole society.
