Sistina Unveils Global File System 5.1 |

Minneapolis, Minn.—Sistina Software, the premier storage infrastructure software company delivering data-sharing solutions, today announced general availability of Global File System™ (GFS) version 5.1. The latest version of this powerful enterprise-class clustered file system further extends Sistina’s unmatched performance, reliability and scalability with new features that help companies rapidly embrace storage area network (SAN) solutions and a new generation of blade-based computing architectures.
Sistina GFS 5.1, currently available on all major Linux distributions, lets organizations consolidate existing server and storage resources into a single management domain, linking thousands of diverse data storage repositories into a massively scalable, secure and stable SAN. The new version also adds capacity utilization quotas, server specific information within shared directories, direct kernel support for top Linux distributions from Red Hat (Nasdaq: RHAT) and SuSE, and application specific tuning to further enhance scalability and performance.
Customers Adopt Sistina’s Technology
Sistina GFS 5.1 delivers four times the scalability of competing solutions, and Sistina currently supports expansion capabilities up to 256 nodes. With the introduction of new features specifically tuned for enterprise environments, Sistina continues to grow its customer base.

Turbo Charges Oracle 9i Storage
GFS 5.1 also enables Oracle 9i RAC deployments, giving system administrators the flexibility to increase capacity and processing power using simple software commands--while the system remains online. GFS provides Direct I/O support, shared boot, and a shared Oracle HOME directory, thus simplifying Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) database management, increasing performance and dramatically enhancing application availability. GFS also eliminates the need for administrators to manage individual raw devices by delivering a high-performance file-based platform for databases while providing a single-system view of the storage.

Additional innovations in GFS 5.1 include several features that greatly ease day-to-day management of large, clustered systems and still dramatically improve the performance of these mission critical environments. These include:
* Direct I/O provides for high-performance, file system-based database implementations, eliminating the need to manage raw partitions.
* Red Hat and SuSE Direct Kernel Support ensures GFS “out-of-box” compatibility with the most popular Linux distributions.
* Context Dependent Path Names permits server, OS, and platform specific information within shared directories thus allowing for rapid deployment without the need to alter applications.
* Unique Storage Capacity Quotas allocate specific storage resources to selected groups and individual users for maximum control and administration over shared data resources.
