Study shows positive impact of chemistry program on high school learning |

A recent article in The Journal of Mathematics and Science describes the positive classroom impact of the first year of a chemistry education program led by NCSA, the Department of Chemistry and the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Institute for Chemistry Literacy through Computational Science (ICLCS) provides training and support for rural Illinois educators in order to provide them with the competencies and tools to improve their students' preparedness. The program is funded by the National Science Foundation. In their published analysis, authors Keith Murray, Marty Henry, and Mark Hogrebe reported that after the program's first year, students of participating instructors "experienced statistically significant gains in chemistry content knowledge."
