Throughout the week, U.S. and international technology leaders will preview and discuss new technologies designed to simultaneously develop next-generation Internet technologies and provide the most sophisticated platform for accelerating scientific discovery among…
The computer engineer Susana Ferreiro has produced a thesis entitled ‘Contributions towards the diagnosis and prognosis of industrial problems by means of Supervised Classification Techniques’ (‘Aportacionespara el diagnóstico y pronóstico en problemasindustrialesmediantetécnicas de ClasificaciónSupervisada’).This work has been developed at the IK4-TEKNIKER R+D centre under the supervision of the EHU/UPV lecturer Basilio Sierra-Araujo (Head of the Department of Robotics and Autonomous Systems of the Computing Faculty in Donostia-San Sebastian). The aim of the research in this thesis has been to apply artificial intelligence techniques, data mining and machine learning to problems linked to the aeronautics industry.“These are algorithms and classifying models that extract information from large volumes of data and infer knowledge on the basis of these data,” explains Ferreiro.Specifically, three problems…
With 41 states having reported widespread and severe outbreaks of flu this season, timely new research sheds light on why less than half of the American population has gotten a flu shot. Despite widespread knowledge that a vaccine is the best way to reduce the chances of catching and spreading the flu, even three of the four main TODAY show anchors recently admitted they had not gotten a flu shot (until they did so live on the air). Using an online computer game that simulates the spread of an infectious disease among its players, researchers at Wake Forest University learned more about what motivates people to protect themselves from infection – from the flu to whooping cough. The study, the…
The Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) claimed the top ranking among the country's scores of industrial parks for the fifteenth year in a row. However, as China's oldest industrial development zone, TEDA did not finish first again by mere chance."Championship is more than just being the best right now, it's about investing to be the best tomorrow as well," TEDA Director He Shushan noted, adding that ever since its creation in 1984, the park has never rested on its laurels. "For example, TEDA has built itself into one of the most technologically advanced pieces of real estate in the world, offering out-of-the-box solutions and blueprints for the next generation of investors," Shushan said. TEDA beat about 90 rivals to top…
