T-Platforms, the Russian supercomputer holding, the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Microsoft Corporation, EMEA Incubation Sales Department, have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of building Supercomputer technology center under the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Supercomputer technology center is expected to boost development of the Kazakh science, economy and the country’s general marketability in the international arena. The document was signed in Almaty city, the capital of Kazakhstan, on November 3, 2009.
“Powerful computing resources are a key factor of national economy development, - said Bektas Mukhamedzhanov, Chief Executive of the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, - We make an aim to create and further develop a powerful computing base that will let us move to a new level of solving the challenging tasks in science, education and industry."
It is planned to utilize the resources of the future Center for intensive development of such sectors of the national economy as energy, oil extraction, industry, state management, education and science, public health service, ecology, finance, social services and the defense sector. Supercomputer technology lets not only reduce the time of research and development in these fields but also cheapen these processes by replacing part of real experiments with mathematic modeling. Moreover, the supercomputer will allow modeling and simulation of conditions which are impossible or dangerous to simulate in real life. For instance, space objects collapse or global climate change.
The Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan has shown interest in using T-Platforms HPC technology and solutions for the Center project implementation. A supercomputer with performance of some 10-20Tflops is planned to become the computing base of Supercomputer technology center under the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Therefore, according to expert opinion, Kazakhstan will become the 2nd country in the CIS after Russia to hold computing systems with real productivity of such rate. Further it is planned to gradually scale the supercomputer’s capacity up to 100Tflops.
T-Platforms in its turn intends to take an active hand in all stages of implementation of Supercomputer technology center. The Russian holding is ready to carry out detailed analysis of the Center tasks, design a computing complex with the optimal configuration, and provide the Center specialists with training based on a special program that was developed in cooperation with a leading Russian computing center.
Microsoft Corporation, EMEA Incubation Sales, is interested in assistance to Supercomputer technology center and providing training of the Center's specialists in deployment and effective work with applications based on Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008 operating system. The company is also interested in organizing round tables and HPC-related meetings, and providing support in implementation of parallel programming course.
