Terascala announces world’s first run time storage appliance

RTS 1000 Lustre-based appliance delivers high capacity, high throughput and 3X the price/performance of SAN-based solutions: Visit Terascala at SC07 Booth #2537 – Terascala has announced its first product, the Terascala RTS 1000 Run Time Storage Appliance, a Lustre-based appliance offering extremely high capacity and high throughput for run time storage applications. Delivering over three times the price/performance of storage-area network (SAN) solutions in a fully configured and tuned appliance, the RTS 1000 works with Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet or InfiniBand® networks to ensure that applications read, write and store data rapidly during run time. The challenge of run time storage, the ability to efficiently deliver and write data quickly, is significant for organizations using computing clusters to process large datasets because it demands a high throughput, high capacity storage solution to effectively store data. The RTS 1000 is cost-effective and easy to deploy, and delivers significant benefits to high performance computing environments, including: • High capacity – Supports up to 40 TB per 8U high enclosure and up to 192 TB in a standard rack. • High data throughput – Over 1.8 GB/sec with InfiniBand or 10GB Ethernet networks and over 575 MB/sec with Gigabit Ethernet in a single enclosure. • Price/performance leadership – Provides three times the price/performance of SAN-based solutions in a fully configured and tuned appliance. • Expandable – Provides the ability to add throughput or capacity by adding additional nodes without impacting the existing environment. • Easy to use – A fully configured ready-to-go tuned appliance, the RTS 1000 is designed to minimize setup and deployment time, and includes complete lights-out management and monitoring that can be integrated with SNMP. “Compute and network elements have made great strides in recent years in the high performance arena, but run time storage options have been limited to ‘borrowing’ either enterprise storage solutions or NAS solutions,” said Larry Genovesi, president and CEO of Terascala. “And while enterprise storage solutions meet performance and capacity targets, they are expensive and deliver more features than are needed. NAS solutions meet capacity and some cost goals, but don’t deliver the data throughput needed. The RTS 1000 is the first run time storage appliance designed specifically for the demands of high performance computing applications.” The Terascala RTS 1000 is available now.
