Linux Networx Partners with Fusion Petroleum Technologies

Easy-to-Use, Production-Ready Systems Enable Rapid, Cost-Effective, High Performance Computing for Oil and Gas Exploration: Linux Networx and Fusion Petroleum Technologies Inc. today announced a partnership to deliver high performance visualization systems along with software solutions that dramatically enhance the ability of oil and gas companies to find and exploit new oil fields quickly and efficiently. The systems blend the ease of use and scalability of Linux Networx' production-ready LS-V High Performance Visualization Systems with Fusion Petroleum technologies' innovative LAGNIAPPE software platform and their advanced visualization software AMIGO. LAGNIAPPE will provide an integrated environment for the processing and analysis of seismic data for petroleum exploration and production. When delivered to the customer along with the LS-V System, this combined solution will enable users to cost-effectively analyze and render very large interactive data sets in real-time. The new systems are the first of their kind to enable simultaneous seismic data processing, interactive analysis and visualization. Scalable to any number of visualization nodes, and complemented by high performance compute nodes, the systems enable users to dedicate individual nodes to specific applications and to have enough compute power to simultaneously work with and manipulate data and models on different screens at very high frame rates. In addition, the systems deliver a tremendous increase in processing and visualization power, enabling users to migrate from traditional seismic processing systems capable of analyzing millions of traces and displaying to scalable, clustered systems capable of analyzing many millions of polygons. As a result users can analyze more data, with greater fidelity, than ever before. "For the first time there is a high performance Linux system capable of powering real-time computation and visualization of seismic data," said Dr. Alan R. Huffman, President & CEO of Fusion Petroleum Technologies Inc. "Linux Networx brings unrivaled experience in Linux clusters and HPC for the oil and gas industry. Together we are providing the industry with a new platform that accelerates the process of oil and gas exploration cost-effectively and with greater accuracy." "An oil and gas exploration project can cost tens of millions of dollars. Without robust and accurate computer-aided analysis, those funds can be easily wasted by drilling in the wrong location," said Jack Kenney, CEO of Linux Networx. "We are pleased to partner with Fusion to deliver easy-to-use, production-ready systems that will help their oil and gas customers find and exploit resources rapidly, safely and cost-effectively." LS-V High Performance Visualization Systems feature AMD Opteron Dual-Core CPUs, InfiniBand interconnects, fully integrated data I/O subsystems, and the optional Linux Networx GPFS high performance file system. The LS-V is configured in turnkey, production-ready systems ranging in size from 3 to 31 visualization nodes, fully scalable from individual users through large corporate visualization centers. LS-V capabilities can be easily added to the full range of existing Linux Networx systems, giving users of the most popular computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis, and other computer-aided engineering applications a fully integrated high performance computational and visualization solution. Linux Networx is one of the leading providers of HPC systems to the energy industry. Customers include BHP Billiton, GX Technology, Schlumberger, Shell Oil, Statoil, Weinman Geoscience and others, and with LNXI technology help to leverage the customer's systems to run applications including Velocity Analysis, 2D and 3-D Pre-Stack Depth Migration, 3-D DMO, Reservoir Characterization, Visualization and Modeling, etc.
