The SC10 conference – formerly called Supercomputing – is the premier international conference on high-performance computing, networking, storage and analysis that is held annually in November. The 2010 conference has partnered with The Louisiana Optical Network Initiative, or LONI, to provide the high performance, wide-area networking resources needed to build and operate SCinet.
Key leaders from LONI, along with high-performance computing staff at Louisiana State University, will work with the conference on planning and logistics throughout the year to ensure adequate networking operations and support, and will begin building the network on-site in September. This robust infrastructure will support the over 10,000 attendees expected for SC10.
Jamie Van Randwyk, Principal Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories and Chair of SCinet said, “We are pleased to partner with LONI to provide the wide area networking resources that ensure SCinet has the capacity and connections needed to support the bandwidth intense demonstrations that are key to SC10 attendees and exhibitors’ experience.”
“We are honored that SC10 will take place in our state, and we are pleased to provide staff support so LONI and Louisiana’s higher education institutions can show their support for this world-renowned conference,” said Les Guice, LONI Management Council chairman. “As we continue preparations for the next several months, we look forward to more opportunities to use Louisiana’s networking and high-performance computing technologies to benefit SC10.”
LONI is a high-speed, fiber optic network that connects supercomputing resources among six universities and the two LSU health sciences centers in state. LONI connects Louisiana to the major national research networks, including Internet2 and National LambdaRail, and is one of 11 resource providers on TeraGrid, the backbone of national cyberinfrastructure.
