MSC.Software Helps Celerity Streamline Product Development Processes

SANTA ANA, Calif. -- MSC.Software Corp., the leading global provider of virtual product development (VPD) tools, including simulation software, services and systems, today announced that Celerity, a world leader in the design and production of high performance gas and chemical delivery process modules that are integral to manufacturing of semiconductors, biopharmaceuticals, and other electronic and industrial products has utilized a SmarTeam Product Data Management (PDM) system and integration services from MSC.Software. "PDM is an important part of any manufacturer's information technology infrastructure, especially as it relates to linking VPD data to BOM and other procurement data," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "Data management plays a vital role in the effectiveness of VPD techniques and our combined data management solutions can help customers better manage their data and reduce the non value-added time engineers spending trying to store, retrieve and link data." Celerity, a leading manufacturer of gas and chemical delivery process modules for manufacturing semiconductors, biopharmaceuticals and other products, used SmarTeam, for accessing its multiple CAD, BOM and document handling systems. Implemented by MSC.Software, the new PDM system enabled Celerity to make SmarTeam the cornerstone for standardizing best practices and processes and established a central location for all product data within the organization. "SmarTeam didn't change our processes, but it helped us recognize that there were differences between our different sites and allowed everybody to conform to a higher standard," said Vince Brown, project manager at Celerity. "The best things about SmarTeam are the ability to centralize our pre-production data and that has facilitated better collaboration between our different sites and customers." SmarTeam, a member of the Dassault Systemes S.A. group of companies is a PDM system that enables businesses to gain improvements in product quality, reduce costs, expedite project turnaround, comply with industry standards and shorten time-to-market by making product-related information available to anyone in an organization who needs it. According to market research firm Daratech, the market for PDM systems is estimated at $1.7 billion in 2003 and is growing at an annual rate of 10%.
