SEATTLE--MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, today announced that the MySQL(R) database has been optimized for the AMD Opteron(TM) processor, the flagship for AMD's new AMD64 technology platform. MySQL for Linux running on the AMD Opteron processor is now available at the MySQL AB Web site at www.mysql.com/downloads. AMD's new 64-bit platform, the AMD64 architecture, is designed to be a new class of high-performance computing that will enable the technology industry to build a unified 64-bit computing infrastructure that is fully compatible with the ubiquitous x86 technology. The AMD Opteron processor for servers and workstations is the first milestone in establishing this new class of computing. The availability of MySQL on AMD Opteron processors brings the performance and cost advantages of the MySQL database to software developers who are creating applications for AMD's new computing platform, thus extending the large MySQL development community and adding to the growing list of 64-bit MySQL-based applications. MySQL is available on all major Linux distributions, as well as Unix, Mac OS and Windows operating systems. The optimization of MySQL for the AMD Opteron processor further extends the reach of MySQL's database solution.
