Sun Microsystems Holds Q4 FY01 Mid Quarter Update Conference Call

Sun Microsystems, Inc., (Nasdaq: SUNW), a leading provider of hardware, software and services that power enterprises and network computing, today announced preliminary results for its fourth fiscal quarter ending June 30, 2001. The company now expects revenues for the fourth quarter to be slightly down from those reported in the third quarter of the current fiscal year, or in the $3.8 to $4.0 billion range.

Earnings per share, on a pro forma basis, for the fourth quarter are now estimated to be in the range of $.02 to $.04.

Sun has scheduled a mid quarter update conference call for later today, May 29, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. (PDT), which will be broadcast live at www.sun.com.

All references to earnings per share set forth in this press release are diluted earnings per share as defined within Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 128.
