William E. “Bill” Johnston is the new project manager for the Energy Sciences Network (ESnet), the high-speed network managed by Berkeley Lab and serving thousands of DOE scientists and collaborators worldwide. Recognized internationally as a leader in Grid development, Johnston has been a key leader in the development of DOE’s Science Grid as well as NASA’s Information Power Grid. He is a senior scientist at Berkeley Lab and most recently served as head of the Distributed Systems Department. He replaces Jim Leighton, who retired. Johnston
