SEATTLE, WA -- Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. (Nasdaq:CRAY) today announced that it has received two orders totaling nearly $19 million from the U.S. Department of Defense and an additional governmental purchaser for Cray SV2 (code named) supercomputer systems and related services. The orders call for early air cooled systems to be delivered in 2002 so the purchasers can familiarize themselves with the operating system and begin to port their application codes to the SV2 system. Final deliveries are scheduled for 2003. "We continue to make solid progress on the development of the SV2 system," said Jim Rottsolk, Cray president and chief executive officer. "Our partners are now able to see real applications running on SV2 systems. We appreciate their further support through these orders. Our whole team is excited about delivering these systems and having our customers use them to run their most important applications." "The SV2 system represents the latest developments in supercomputing technology by combining both vector processing capabilities from the long line of Cray Research vector systems with highly parallel capabilities similar to those we employ in our highly successfully T3E systems," said Rottsolk. "With the SV2, we are targeting the top end of the market, where high-bandwidth and high-capability are important." Visit www.cray.com for more information.
