E&S Launches New Visual System with Sale to Lufthansa Flight Training
SALT LAKE CITY, UT—Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. (E&S®) (Nasdaq: ESCC) has launched its new EP™1000CT visual system with a sale to Lufthansa Flight Training, the company announced today. The first of a software-centered suite of products capable of running on a range of hardware platforms, EP-1000CT balances commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and in-house technology to create the highest fidelity and most cost-effective visual training environments in the world. Lufthansa Flight Training selected the new E&S systems after 12 months of rigorous product demonstrations against key development milestones. Under the terms of the contract, Evans & Sutherland will replace current in-training systems with a number of EP-1000CT systems for installation on simulators located at Frankfurt and Berlin, with options for additional systems. Deliveries will begin in early 2003. Designed specifically to meet the exacting requirements for FAA Level D (and equivalent) flight training, the EP (environment processor) line of products is targeted at turnkey commercial simulation applications. EP-1000CT offers a number of world-leading, training-oriented features, including E&S’ Continuous Texture™ (CT), which provides a high-resolution, textured backdrop to a worldwide 3D training environment. “When we began development of the EP products, we set some very specific objectives—solid system reliability, cost-effective performance, training value, and fast generation of airport and terrain content,” said Richard Flitton, E&S Commercial Simulation vice president and general manager. “EP-1000CT meets those objectives, setting a new standard for affordable, realistic pilot training.” “The new EP system will greatly enhance our training capabilities,” said Capt. Dieter Hensel of Lufthansa German Airlines. “The EP-1000CT systems provide the advances in training environment fidelity that today’s aviation industry demands, thereby increasing the safety of our passengers and crew.” Flitton continued, “Along with the EP-1000CT, E&S continues to offer its successful ESIG® range of commercial simulation products for customers requiring commonality with earlier systems, reinforcing a firm commitment to an industry that values long-term support and product availability.”
