Extreme Networks Showcases Benefits of An Open Converged Network

Extreme Networks is showcasing the benefits of an open converged network to attendees at the upcoming Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX), Sept. 25-29, Dubai World Trade Center. At booth L6-3 in Hall 6, the Company is presenting its solutions approach for building highly available, secure and resilient network infrastructures that serve as the foundation for business communication. Too often, business migration to converged communications is met with an unresponsive, inflexible IT infrastructure, thus stalling the adoption of necessary applications. Enterprises now require a flexible, high-performance network that is prepared for new applications, such as voice, yet hardened against security threats. An Open Approach At the core of Extreme Networks' approach to convergence is an open platform built with ExtremeWare XOS, an extensible, modular operating system that enables improved flexibility. ExtremeWare XOS allows customers to choose best-in-class technologies such as IP telephony and security from industry-leaders. Customers can select and integrate technologies that best fit their needs. High Availability Extreme Networks products include high availability features at the hardware, software and network level. For example, Extreme Networks' innovative Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS) protocol brings sub-50 millisecond failover for network services over ring networks, which can permit voice calls to continue even in the case of a fiber cut. Voice-Quality Connections Extreme Networks Ethernet connectivity provides multimedia voice-video applications with low-latency, low-jitter and Quality of Service (QoS). Congestion in the network is addressed from the edge of the network to the core, to deliver prioritized network traffic for voice calls, with minimal delay, jitter or packet loss. Responsive Security Extreme Networks promotes enhanced business continuity with its security solutions. The CLEAR-Flow security rules engine and Sentriant appliance are designed to work together and help address common exploits and "day zero" threats. This network-wide approach helps create a more responsive security solution that does not rely on signatures and can help protect multiple Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet links. Ease of Management Customers can obtain network management from Extreme Networks' EPICenter software suite. Used either on a stand-alone basis or to manage partner devices, EPICenter helps automate tasks, simplify configuration and provides an overview of the network.
