BlueArc today announced that C.O.R.E. Feature Animation, a division of Canada's leading visual effects and digital animation studio, C.O.R.E., solely relied on BlueArc Titans to rapidly deliver highest quality animation for the Walt Disney Pictures release, "The Wild," debuting across 2,600 movie screens throughout North America this past weekend. C.O.R.E. Feature Animation is using more than 90 terabytes of storage on three Titan systems for the all-CGI feature. With more than 1,400 CGI shots required for "The Wild," C.O.R.E.'s technical team, working side by side with the film's production staff, focused on delivering the storage infrastructure to improve and accelerate the artistic process. Through the combination of investing in a top of line render farm and BlueArc Titan systems, C.O.R.E. improved artist quality, shaved time off production schedules and delivered more iterations per scene, on deadline. The Titans, purchased in early 2004, were operative in delivering high-speed access to massive data files throughout the film's production. At the heart of a CGI network, BlueArc network storage systems offer industry-leading performance to drive stunning improvements in rendering speeds and dramatically reduce artist wait times from file transfers to downloading shadow maps. BlueArc removes the data-flow constraints that bottleneck even the most powerful render farms. This means faster renders, fewer dropped frames, and far less rework for render wranglers. And BlueArc storage provides fast data access that allows artists to focus their attention on spectacular results and higher quality. "Development of 'The Wild,' an all computer generated animation film, demanded both creative leadership and technology leadership, to ensure we produced the very highest quality product," said Matt Welker, Director of Technology at C.O.R.E. Feature Animation. "With BlueArc Titans at the core of our production, our artists were able to create the most impressive special effects and keep a laser focus on the quality of their work, rather than focus on the underlying technology. BlueArc delivered a rock solid storage infrastructure with uncompromising speed and capacity scaling to C.O.R.E. throughout the film's production." "BlueArc customers in the entertainment industry, like C.O.R.E., are consistently delivering the ultimate in creative innovation -- from the special effects seen in 'The Wild,' to next generation elements for top-line video games and feature films," said Steve Daheb, vice president of marketing and business development for BlueArc. "We are pleased to see Titan playing a strong role in this unique production, leading the way in delivering performance, scalability and manageability from the movie's start to completion."
