MSC.Software today announced that FN Herstal, part of the HERSTAL GROUP and makers of Browning and Winchester small arms, has invested in MSC.ADAMS to improve their development process and the mechanical performance of their products. MSC.ADAMS will be used primarily for mechanical system simulation of small arms mechanisms in order to improve product performance. "MSC.Software has a powerful offering for manufacturers of all kinds of mechanical products, especially those who need powerful tools to simulate high speed performance of complex mechanisms," says Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "The MSC.ADAMS product is a very strong piece of our SimOffice product portfolio and the worldwide standard in multi- body motion simulation. We look forward to working with the engineers at FN Herstal as they continue to develop some of the world's most recognizable small arms brands." "To improve the quality of our products, we have been looking for a multi-body tool with good contact simulation capabilities to meet our needs," said Xavier Gavage, R&D Project Manager at FN Herstal SA. "After benchmarking several tools, and an assessment period of one month, we found that MSC.ADAMS was exactly what we were looking for. With the use of MSC.ADAMS, I expect to get a deeper insight into the mechanisms, especially during the design phase of the products. Since we are now able to explore numerous designs by doing more iteration virtually, we are confident to reduce the number of prototypes. Besides the good contact-to-contact simulation possibilities, it was the solver efficiency and the short calculation time that impressed us most. More quality in less time was more than convincing."
