LapiStor Ltd today extended its DataPac 5000 Series of high-density RAID data storage solutions - launching the DataPac 5300, which features 16 Serial-ATA drive bays, with 6.4Terabytes of storage capacity, in a compact 3U enclosure. This latest addition to the LapiStor family of products offers multiple-host configuration options, such as dual Ultra 320 SCSI and dual Fibre Channel 2Gbit host connections and it complements the existing DataPac 5100 and DataPac 5200, which feature four and twelve S-ATA disk drives in a 1U and 2U form factor respectively. "The DataPac 5000 Series is the next generation of high-density RAID solutions and has been designed for maximum flexibility and scalability." said Tony Howard, Managing Director of LapiStor. "This design enables customers to maximise the return on their investment by offering the highest number of hot-pluggable drives in a 1U, 2U and, now, 3U form factor. Unsurpassed fault-tolerance results from eliminating all potential points of failure. We envisage particularly strong demand for this product from SMEs - and for a range of applications including post-production and CCTV." The DataPac 5300 is a completely cable-free solution. The powerful on-board Fault Management System "CommandViewT" carries out pro-active fault monitoring, including email broadcasting. It also provides time stamping of events and monitors ambient air temperature, as well as drive temperature to detect high temperature thresholds. A powerful 64-bit RISC processor, supporting up to 1GB of cache, powers the integrated RAID controller. The use of 16 separate disk drive channels ensures a single drive failure cannot compromise the RAID system's stored data. This RAID system supports single or multiple arrays, online expansion, dual host connections and clustering. With ease of use in mind, the DataPac 5300 features not only CommandView but also a Touch Screen and a completely redesigned front panel.
